Stage 1: the CBT
The CBT has two papers:
- Paper I — 100 questions, 120 minutes: general awareness (the biggest section), quantitative aptitude, mental ability and reasoning, English, Punjabi and digital literacy. Paper I marks make the merit list.
- Paper II — a qualifying Punjabi paper of 50 questions. You must reach the qualifying marks, but they are not added to your score.

Stage 2: PST and PMT
Candidates shortlisted on the CBT score are called for the Physical Screening Test (running and other events) and the Physical Measurement Test (height, and chest for men). Both are qualifying: they decide whether you stay in the race, not your rank. News reports put the physical tests for the 2026 drive in the second half of October 2026, with admit cards on the recruitment portal; confirm your own date, time and venue on punjabpolice.gov.in before you travel.
What to carry: the physical-test admit card, an original photo ID and the documents listed on the admit card. Reach early, because events run batch by batch.
Final merit and documents
The final merit list follows the CBT score of candidates who clear Paper II, the PST and the PMT, cadre-wise and category-wise. Document verification and medical examination come next. Keep your certificates ready, especially the Punjabi (matriculation level), category, domicile and any NCC or sports certificates claimed in the form.
